Celebrating World Habitat Day: A Step Towards Sustainable Living

We were thrilled to take part in the Vital Village Festival this weekend, engaging in meaningful conversations about how we can all live more sustainably. Jo and I, representing Our Fashion Fix, had the opportunity to speak about sustainable fashion—discussing how making more conscious shopping choices can contribute to protecting our environment and creating healthier communities.

The festival’s panel was an inspiring mix of voices, covering everything from fashion and food to wildlife and finance, each linking back to the central theme of sustainable living. We had the pleasure of meeting Diana Thornton from @takethejump, who provided fantastic insights into low-impact living, and Winston Holland from @wildlifeaidfoundation, whose dedication to protecting wildlife reminded us how connected our habitats truly are. We were also inspired by Victoria Ebrahimzadeh who runs the incredible Community Fridge at Vital Village, showcasing how reducing food waste is a crucial step in building more sustainable neighbourhoods. We also heard from Adrian Taylor who is helping grow green finances in green funds and thank you to Richard Essex of the Surrey Climate Committee, who chaired the event.

This year’s World Habitat Day reminds us of the importance of sustainable urban development, and events like the Vital Village Festival are proof of how communities can come together to make a difference. Whether it’s through shopping more consciously, reducing waste, or supporting wildlife preservation, each small action contributes to creating a more sustainable world for everyone.  We must also mention Gill Coates, Laura Pring and all the volunteers @VitalvillageUK who do such a fantastic job.

Let’s continue taking stepsbig or small—towards a more sustainable future for our homes, our habitats, and our communities!
